Abstract

The textile industry sector is considered one of the biggest pollutants of water bodies, as in addition to using a large volume of water in its production processes, it releases a high amount of contaminants into the environment, especially in water bodies. In this context, Advanced Oxidative Processes (AOPs) can be used as a treatment process for textile effluents that have dyes, containing non-biodegradable pollutants, since they have the potential to degrade, either partially or totally, those molecules that are not completely degraded in biological treatment systems. Due to the scarcity of literature showing the use of these types of treatments, the present study proposes to carry out a brief review of the literature. A meta-analysis was carried out with data from the Scopus platform and the VosViewer software was used to assess the relevance of life cycle analysis of textile effluent treatment through POAs. As a result, it was observed that there are several methods of treating textile effluents and that these can be compared using the LCA tool in order to determine which one has the lowest environmental impact, highlighting the Fenton and Photo-Fenton systems, heterogeneous photocatalysis and systems based on the use of ozone.
