The myth of the cave and the educational conception in Book VII of the Republic of Plato

This work aims to analyze the myth of Plato's cave, which is found in book VII of The Republic under a gnosiological-educational matrix. In this sense, the Platonic theory of knowledge is closely linked to its ontological doctrine, which is why the onto-gnosiology neologism is necessary. In this way we will make a brief explanation about Plato's itinerary, works and the Socratic heritage. We will also seek to analyze the myth itself and its educational perspective. And, finally, we will enter the educational issue exposed in the myth of the cave. The philosopher's position will be addressed, as it is the substrate of his own conception of education (Paideia). The work presented here shows the educational process implicit in the myth of the cave, as well as some guiding points of the Platonic pedagogy that are relevant for us to think about the relevance of its educational concept.
